OverView of Dasallapalli

Description of the village: The name of my village is Dasallapalli in the mandal of Podili and in the District of Prakasam. It is a small village. The famous river Musi flows down at a distance of 0.5 km to the east. There is a big canal on the west of the village. A small canal also runs through the heart of the village. and it is connected to the Bangalakatham, Many good roads run through the village. Roads in our village can be used only in the dry season. During the rainy season, they remain under water.

Inhabitants: About three thousand people live in our village. People of different communities live here. There are both Hindus and Christians. The Hindus live in the eastern part and the Christians in the western part of the village. The latter are generally cultivators. Some of them are also traders and some hold service under the Government. Most of the Hindus earn their bread by service. There are many educated men in our village. Some of them hold high offices under the Government. There are lawyers, doctors, professors and merchants. Many of them live in towns. They come to the village only during holidays.

School, Library, etc.: There is a small government School in the village. There is a M.P.P.S School at a little distance. Boys read there after finishing their studies in the M. E. School. There is also a primary school for girls. There is a public library in the village. There we can read many good books, monthly magazines and newspapers.

Village market The village market is very small. There is a big market at a little distance. There is no charitable dispensary in our village. But there is an Association of the villagers for the welfare of the village. The association distributes medicines free to the poor. There is a Post and Telegraph Office in our village. There are also arrangements for football, cricket and country games in the village.

Climate: The climate of the village is excellent. The pure and invigorating air of the Musi flows over it. The flood in the rainy season sweeps away all its accumulated impurities.

 About Temples: In Dasallapalli, most of the village temples are Sri Ramalayam and Ankamma talli and anjaneya swami near by Musi river. Such temples are full of art and architecture. They are full of sculptural beauty. The upper parts of them are shaped as domes. These antique temples are made of stone and lime. Many of the village temples are set up by saints or by the rich and pious landlords.

Organisation: In the village temple there are generally two appointed priests. One is the principal and the other is the assistant. They are Brahmins by caste. Besides there is an attendant to do the menial jobs. Some people who are gardeners by caste get the lease of land to supply flowers and garlands of flowers for the deity. There are others who supply other necessary articles or do the necessary jobs on the same condition.

Daily routine of worship: The principal priest performs the daily rites and rituals before the holy image. The worship in the early morning is very nice to see. The priest sets the ghee wicks in a small chandelier. Then he lights those wicks and moves the chandelier before the deity. The burning candles of the ghee-wicks and the holy incense of resins create a sacred atmosphere inside the temple premises. The sounds made by the holy carol by the brass bands are resounded in the whole hamlet. Many religious ladies, young and old, attend to enjoy the function with full devotion of heart. They think themselves fortunate to behold this holy offering of light. This kind of worship is repeated in the evening. At mid-day and late at night, principal ‘Bhogs’ are offered to the deity.

Festivals: In the temple, festivals are done round the year. To grand celebrate the festival is Sri ramanavami and Ankamma talli kolupulu and tirunallu.

About Schools: In my village the the government school is open in 1983,We see the primary schools in almost all the villages of India. They are very common with the Indian village people. The villagers know their Primary School and the primary school teacher quite well. Because since the time immemorial, a teaching community of our society speared over the villages to impart primary education as a means of their live and childhood. At the modern period this education has been systematized. It has been based on a scientific principle with a supply of modern buildings and modern educational appliances.

Conclusion: The village temple is the holiest place in the village. The holy villagers put their utmost faith on the deity inside the temple and that is the greatest asset for them in the midst of any adversity.
