KANHA NATIONAL PARK
Kanha National Park is a famous tiger reserve situated in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh. Located amidst the spectacular horse shoe shaped valleys of Banjar and Halon in the Mekal mountain ranges, this national park offers out of the world experience to the visitors with its rich scenic beauty.
Spread out in an area of about 940 sq km, the forest area is enriched with spectacular stretch of bamboo and Sal trees. The swaying long grasses of the grassland and the sparkling streams leave the visitors awe struck. Kanha National park is the natural habitat of many wild animals, with the main attraction being the royal tigers. This forest was declared as a tiger reserve in the year 1974 to control the depletion in the tiger population and increase its number.
Apart from tiger there are many other species of animals such as spotted dear, wild boar, jungle cat, jackal, leopard, striped hyena and about 200 varieties of the colourful avian flock. Besides having amazing collection of the fauna and winged beauties, The National park is also famed for having fantabulous spread of different varieties of colourful flora. Bammi Dadar close to the park is a famous sunset point. Kanha Museum and Ramnagar fort close by are also prime tourist destinations.
Sitting in the safari vehicle and moving through the forest viewing the wild animals, rare avian flock and lofty ancient trees is truly a daring experience for any zealot traveller to remember lifelong.
November-February is the best time in the year to visit this fantastic place.
OTHER PLACES
Guided Visits/ Safari : The forest department help the people to have a closer look at the animals by organizing jungle safari’s in an open jeep. This provides a great opportunity to enjoy the view of the animals in their natural habitat.
Kanha Museum : Located in the vicinity of the national park, the museum educates the user about the animals, birds, plant species and the topography of the forest.
Bamni Dadar : This is a stunning sunset point which offer panoramic views of the surrounding jungle. Sambar, barking deer, gaur and four-horned antelope are some of the animal species that can be spotted here.
The Baghira Log Huts : Banhira Log Hut is an awesome restaurant located amidst the lush green vegetation of the Kanha National Park. Visitors can feast on the nature’s bounty by staying here.
HOW TO REACH
By Air : Jabalpur is the nearest airport which is about 156 kms. It has regular flights to Delhi and Bhopal.
By Road : Taxis and buses are available from Bilaspur, Raipur and Jabalpur. After dusk movement of vehicles is banned in the park.
By Rail : Jabalpur and Bilaspur are the nearest railway stations.
