The city of Bhavnagar is full of hustle bustle of the busy business life. It is a gateway for going to Shatrunjaya and Velavadar National Park, located close to Bhavnagar. Since the year of 1743, the city of Bhavnagar came into existence. Once upon a time Bhavnagar used to be a significant centre for cotton business. However, at present, the economy of the place depends on the trade of diamonds, plastics and manufacturing ship parts. The main function of the Lock Gate is too make the ship stay floating even during the time of low tide.

The city of Bhavnagar is situated in Gujarat Peninsula’s southern tip. The main port of the place is the Gogha port. This port acts as an entry point to the Gulf of Cambay. The city of Bhavnagar has been a city highlighted with the prosperous business related activities. 

There are a huge variety of locations and destinations for the tourists to visit – the luxurious architectures of historical period, the bazaars covered in colors of textile handicrafts, the fine silver works, the shinning gems present here holds up to the human eye, an appealing visual representation of the hearty spirit of the city. The tag of Sanskari Kendra, which means Cultural City, is given to the city of Bhavnagar and it is quite a well earned title. Some of the literature laureates who have contributed to the culture and literature of the city are Narsinh Mehta, Ganga Sati, Jhaverchand Meghani, Kavi Kant and Govardhan Tripathi.

Akshar Temple: One of the most popular and renowned temple in Bhavnagar, the Akshar Temple is also named the Aksharwadi Swaminarayana Temple.

Barton Library and Museum: One of the most ancient memorials in the city of Bhavnagar, the Barton Library and Museum is a place for kids as well as adults. In the year 1895 the construction of this monument took place. This place is an enjoyable time pass for the aged people, who come here to go through news papers, magazines and books, at a leisurely pace. Ancient books, manuscripts, coins which are rare, war items used by Bhavnagar’s kings are brought to display, in the museum. There are other items of interest which are displayed in the museum – such as tools for farming, beadwork, wood carvings, weapons, musical instruments and Mahatma Gandhi’s memoirs from his student life in Bhavnagar University.

Bhavnagar Lock Gate: In Bhavnagar located in Gujarat, one of the main locations for the tourists is the Bhavnagar Lock Gate. The main function of the Lock Gate is too make the ship stay floating even during the time of low tide. In the dock area of the city, the lock gate is located. The dockyard area dates back a hundred years. Still functioning in the present time, this dock is an ancient dock of the city. Currently this area is used for constructing ships.

Gandhi Smriti: It is a monument. This structure houses a library. It has a collection of books belonging to the Gandhian philosophy. The library also has pictures relating to the life of Gandhiji. The traditions and customs of the Saurashtra area are reflected on the spectacular assortment of art items.

Gangajaha: In the city of Bhavnagar a temple called Gangajaha is present. One of the major attractions of the city of Bhavnagar, this place attracts quite a number of tourists. The white colored marbles with which the temple has been constructed gives the temple a beautiful and dignified character. 

Gaurishankar Lake: The Gaurishankar Lake is also known as Bor Talav. It is basically a water reservoir. It has been constructed for supplying water to the people of this town. The name of the lake has been derived from the name of a king’s minister, dating back to the 19th century. It is a well liked and preferred place for a picnic. A person can have a wonderful view of the sun setting against the backdrop of the lake. One can also have a pleasant walk on the lake’s walls. A not so large planetarium is also present here, especially for the children. On the bed of the lake, Bhav Vilas Palace is situated. 

Ghogha Seashore: The Ghogha beach is located at a distance of 19 Kms from Bhavnagar. It is a nice place for a quick outing. 

Gopnath Beach: There is an opulent and abundant variety of birds in this beach of Gopnath. Also present here are the cliffs of limestone and other locations on the Gopnath beach. The tourists, who come to visit this beach, witness the beauty of the beach and breathe in the enjoyable and calming breeze coming from the sea. In the entire world, this place is considered to have the largest ship wrecking region. A holy place is also present here which is the Talja Temple. The temple has been constructed on a hill which is volcanic in nature. The height of the hill is 350 feet.

Mahuva: The Bhavnagar district, located in the state of Gujarat, has another tiny town known as Mahua. The town is set against a spectacular backdrop, thus gaining the name of Kashmir of Saurashtra. The beauty of the town is even more enhanced by the rows of coconut trees present in and around the town. Also, the beach is a major attraction for the tourists. Bhavani Temple is a very old temple situated close to the beach. Many a number of tourists come here to visit the temple. A very enjoyable weather is experienced all around the year in this town of Mahua.

Nava Bandar: Located on India’s west coast, the port of Bhavnagar is the home for the little vessels throughout the year. In the Gulf of Cambay, this port is situated. 21° 45" N is the latitude of this place while 72° 14" E is the longitude. The distant between this port and the city of Bhavnagar is a mere 10 Kms. The vessels should go through the Lock Gate Door in order to be debarked next to the jetty made of concrete. 

Nilambag Palace: A heritage hotel which has been approved by the government, the Nilambag Palace keeps up to the expectation of a grand and royal stay here. 

Takhteswar Temple: One of the major attractions of Bhavnagar is the temple of Takhteswar. The temple has been constructed with white colored marbles on top of a hill. It has a spectacular view of the city. The hill on top of which the temple is situated is situated close to the railway station. In this temple the god which is mainly worshipped is Lord Shiva.

Victoria Park: The area of the park is 2 square kilometers. It has a variety of animals as well as plants. This place is like a grand treat for the people who adores nature and loves birds.

By road: The distance between Bhavnagar and Mumbai is 791 Kms via Ahmedabad route and that between Bhavnagar and Ahmedabad is 200 Kms, when one travels on the State Highway. One can access this place on buses. Government buses as well as private buses offer their services.

By rail: The station in Bhavnagar is located on the Western Railway Line.

By air: The city of Bhavnagar is well linked via the domestic flights with Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
