OverView of Ahuri
Ahuri has a traceable history as prominent village of Kanhpurias of more than 800 years. The Kanhpuia clan decends from tiloi branch of kanhpuira thakurs. The astabal ( where war horses were kept & maintained ) of Raja Tiloi in British India was established at Ahuri with mansabdars. The horses were maintained till 80s in the village by few thakurs as heritage. The village has an ancient Shiv Temple ( Mahadevan ) & a Godess Shitala temple ( Maharani ka Thana ) on south end of the village habitat. The village is situated on the banks of Sharda canal ( Jaunpur branch ) & the medium canal Singhpur branch originates from Ahuri. The village has a Ramlila ground on the outskirt ( near Pande ka Purwa-Badkaye ). The Sati Chaura situated in the panchayat ghar premises is a place where the newly married brides are first alighted to seek blessings from sati mata, a traditon followed even today without fail by all thakur clan here. The village has exclusive population of Kanhpurias with few baghel, rathore & bais who are adopted or legal heir to few families.
The village is home of the meritorious police officials including Babu Ram kripal Singh (Retired as Instructor from Allahabad Police line in British India ) & Babu Kamta Prasad Mishra-the famous Jailor who handled the young Natwar Lal at Luckow jail in 50s.
The village gave two prominent freedom fighters of Gandhian era- Ram Dutt Vaidya ( Murai ) & Thakur Ram Naresh ( Bhai ). Many of the thakurs of village have served in defence services including the Gajadhar Singh ( son of Raja Singh ) & Vishwanath Singh.
The village has produced Scientist Thakur Ran Bahadur Singh ( R. B. Singh DAE Batch 1977 ) & Er Late Uma Nath Mishra ( Civil Engineer from Roorkee ).
The village has the primary school from the first phase of primary education movement in country. The maszid situated in Ahuri is more than 90 years old. The village has more than half a dozen pucca wells ( kuan ) of British Era. The ancient shiv temple of Jamurawa ( ~4 km from Ahuri ) was looted by muslim invaders for it gold coverings.
