OverView of Bans Kheri
About 400 years ago in the times of Mughal empire there were some people from Banjara tribe, there came from Delhi and settled across the river Ganga. Thy searched for proper place to settled.
Around the year 1650 they settled permanently on a high place having bamboo trees. Approximately 50 years they spend their life on that place.
Due to heavy flood in the river Ganga many people from Sheikh tribe tried to settle on that high area covered by bamboo trees. They tried to settle there permanently because that place on high level as compare to near by areas, and flood water can not reach there, and the soil around there was also very suitable for cultivation. But Banjara tribe was against the settlement of Sheikh tribe. As a result of which there was a war between Banjara & Sheikh tribes in the year 1695 Banjaras got defeated by Sheikhs and pushed out from there . Sheikhs called the banjaras from the name ‘Kundwal’ which means having kunds (wells), because Banjara peoples lived by making wells in their houses. Now a days these wells are still found in village. From than sheikh tribe permanently settled there.
In the 1700th century Sheikh tribe peoples called this place with name ‘Bans Kheri’ (Bans Bamboo & Kheri High place).
From 1700th - 1800th century Sheikh tribe got complete hold on Bans Kheri during 1800th century many people from other tribes like Yadav, Saife, Salmani, Usmani, Kumhar, Dalit, etc. Also started to setteled in Bans Kheri . During 1960 Sheikhs started the business of making of Bidi because agriculture was not sufficient to fulfil the needs of their families.
In 1970th they migrat to cities to earn more mony . After some years their economic condition got better and they developed themselves as strong tribe. Today also all the tribes in Bans Kheri are spending their life peacefully.
