OverView of Killar

Killar 2591 mts (8500 feet) Killar is the administrative headquarters of the Pangi Valley. Earlier it was a cluster of few villages, main villages being Mahliet, Kuffa, Thamoh, Parmas, Kawas, and Karhotti. The central place of all these villages are known as Chowki killar Bazaar. At present there is market in Chowki, and the other area is used as pastures earlier by the villagers has noe been developed into Government Colony, comprising of offices and residences. The outskirts the Killar including the villages namely, Hugal, Parghwal, Karel, Bhatwas and Karyas. Killar is the center of official activity and includes Four surrounding Panchayats:- Killar, Kawas, Karyas, Karel. All the government offices are located here. There is Mini secretariat building which houses three offices besides telephone exchange. Now at present there is BSNL tower is also located at here, which is in hight longest BSNL tower in Himachal Pradesh and which Covers whole Pangi Valley. Office of Resident Commissioner (RC) is located separately. National Flag flies is in front of RC office. And also SDM, Teshildar, and other, offices like BPO office, PWD offices, Forest offices, BDO offices and IPH office are located at here at the distance of some meters from the Bus-stand. Also it has a hospital of 30-40 beds, and a Senior Secondary School, and also a Degree College, Pangi valley Computer Education Centre is also located at here. The Pangi Valley Computer Education Center is starts works from the July 2013 to present. Also a PWD rest house is Located at here behind the GSSS killar Pangi, also there is two Anath Ashram one for boys and other for Girls. and also a SBI bank is also located at here. In comparison to other places in the valley Killar is a small town buzzing with life. The first sight of Killar is, when one comes from Lahaul side, is from Chatwani forest three kms short of Killar. The matchbox shaped houses packed together on the green mountain ranges give a queer picture. Mahulu Nalla is the gateway of Killar. And the second sight of Killar is Sach-pach when one comes from the sach pach joat. There is a famous temple on the Sach Pach TOP KNOWN as JOTTA wali mata temple and also a Bhoot Ground is also downward from the temple. And the Third sight is Luj Valley, when one comes from the Jammu side. Since the Pangi valley had been Linked with STD facility in late 1994. But that time it is restricted for Govt. Offices only. and only Govt. Officers used the STD facility that time, but at present there is BSNL tower and also STD is now used in every Village and also BSNL land line is also used. At there is a three-four video halls present but at present there is no any video halls ,because every house have their own TV. There are few hotels,restaurant,and Chinese dhaba, local dhaba, nepali dhaba, wine shop and other fair shops. Killar has a temple of Dehant Naaag. This temple is located near the forest colony. There is another temple near the Hospital. Phool Jatra the local fair is held in the month of October every year in the the compound of thus temple. In aryas village about 2-3 km from Killar another famous temple of Tattan Mata is there. In addition of this there is Naag Devta temple in Kawas, Singhasni Mata temple in Kuffa, Baleen Mata temple in Karyas. There is a Helipad in killar 2 km from Bus-stand whee all the flights take place during the winter. A well equipped gymnasium at Killar and a forest club are the main fitness center. There is indoor and outdoor facility are also present. Travellers can stay in PWD rest house and Community center. They can also stay in hotel and restaurant in market. There is a very good camping site and Picnic place known as Sirkund.
