Chopta Valley

The untainted beauty and charm of Chopta Valley is a must for the tourists’ eyes. Among the many wonders in the North Sikkim, the place named Chopta Valley out does all. The altitude of the place is 13,200 feet above the sea level. One can reach the valley by driving for 20 minutes from Thangu.

People visiting the Chopta Valley during the winter months, can stroll over the ice covered river situated here. This is one of the rare locations where one can actually do that. The place is sparkling with vibrant colors during the spring season. 

Lachen is the place, where tourists stay for the night. Chopta Valley is visited by the tourists during their day excursions. In Thangu, one can find some cozy home-stays. One has to become accustomed to this kind of high altitudinous weather before one can settle here for an entire night. Lachen is situated at a distance of 30 Kms from Thangu. One gets introduced to the Alpine terrain in Thangu. It is a big difference from the green lush vegetations of the locations in the lower altitude.

                              TOURIST PLACES IN CHOPTA VALLEY

Muguthang Valley: One can goes go to Muguthang Valley by trekking from Chopta Valley. Upon reaching there, one can witness the sprawling plain valley dotted with meaning streams. Only the living beings which survive high altitude can be found in the altitudinous valleys of Muguthang. Nevertheless, theses regions are sometimes inhabited by the Tibetan tribes in order to search for food and also provide pastures for their yaks.

By Train: The New Jalpaiguri Railway Station is the closest station to the Chopta Valley.

By Road: One can drive from Thangu to Chopta Valley. Private cars are available.
